Torrent Site up for Sale on Sedo for $230 USD
The battle against torrent sites continues. According to a report by Torrent Freak the domain kickass.cr has been put up for sale on the SEDO marketplace. The minimum offer is set at $230 USD but you can bid any amount that you like. You can find the listing here: https://sedo.com/search/?keyword=kickass.cr .
Kickass.cr was one of the main domains associated with the (currently no longer in use) KickassTorrents website.
Two and a half weeks ago the KickassTorrents website, one of the biggest torrent sites, was shut down and the Ukrainian owner Artem Vaulin, who was charged with four counts of U.S. criminal indictments, got arrested. Kim Dotcom’s lawyer, Ira Rothken, will be representing Artem Vaulin in his legal battle.
The sites KickassTorrents.com, Kastatic.com (used for technical aspects of the site) and TheKat.tv currently have been seized already and show the familiar Homeland Security/Department of Justice seizure banner. All 3 domains were under control of VeriSign before they were seized.
Kickass.cr, which is now listed at Sedo, is currently not seized but the website is not resolving anymore. The domain is still under control of the Costa Rican domain registry. The registry does not want to say anything about the current status of the domain.
According to the Republic of Costa Rica Law on Protection of Persons against the use of their Personal Data (Law No. 8968), we are not authorized to provide information of any kind about .cr domains to third parties who are not the owners of the domain – Costa Rican Registry
Regardless of the domain being currently listed at Sedo I think it’s unlikely that any potential sale will be completed since the US goverment wants this domain badly.
It seems the functionality of the Torrentz.eu torrent site is now disabled as well. The website currently reads
Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines,” reads the statement. “Torrentz will always love you. Farewell.
At least a dozen other KickassTorrents owned websites remain active however and have not been legally charged with any crime. Then again, none of these sites point to a torrent website.
